The Center for Global Studies (CGS) is part of the Walter Benjamin Kolleg in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Bern. It is a research center that addresses the current and historical processes of different interweaving human areas over large geographical distances and different cultural contexts. The research interests of the center explore the political, social and cultural aspects of these developments, and further take the economic and environmental influences into account. The CGS’s research on these developments, which is primarily based on human, cultural and social sciences, is fundamentally interdisciplinary and mostly shared in a public lecture series. The CGS is also a study center, offering six interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary Master’s study programs and one Bachelor’s program. In addition, the Center also offers a doctorate program in Global Studies.
