Laura Rowitz is a doctoral researcher of Middle Eastern Studies based at the Institute for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Societies (ISNO) at Bern University. Trained in Islamic Studies (University of Hamburg, Aarhus University), she currently explores the legal history of the kafāla system with a geographical focus on the Levant and Egypt. Her research interests comprise labor, social history, legal regimes of dependency, and the history of Middle Eastern Studies.
